1970 454 LS6  CHEVELLE, CORVETTE, COPO  THE REAL DEAL ! ! !

The item you are looking at is a 1970 454 LS6, complete long block, newly freshened & ready to drop in, pre oil, & start. First, a little history on this motor. We believe it originally came out of a Chevelle with low running time & many storage hours. Somewhere around '73 this piece saw too much water & a cold midwestern winter & split the original # 512 block. The block was replaced with a 73, over the counter, 4 bolt, # 289 454 block. No build, or VIN numbers on front pad. Block has never been decked. The motor was reassembled & fired, and again put in storage for a lot of years. A couple of years ago it was installed in a 68 Chevelle, run for a short time on the street & about 30 passes down a dragstrip. Owner decided car wasn't fast enough & opted to build a 540. This is where I came into the picture.

The motor was completely torn down & freshened from top to bottom.  Block has been thermo cleaned, magged, line bore checked, & power honed. This is still a standard bore block. New brass freeze plugs & cam bearings.  Crank was magged, mic'ed & polished. Crank is std./std. Has never been cut. New Clevite rod & main bearings.  OE pistons were cleaned, mic'ed, & re installed. New Speed Pro moly ring set . Factory 7/16" dimpled rods were rebuilt with new ARP rod bolts. Balanced rotating assembly.  New Melling high volume oil pump & pickup . New replacement OE type oil pan.  New Comp Cams LS6 blueprint cam & lifters.  New Cloyes True Roller chain & gears.  Reconditioned OE timing cover.  New replacement OE type balancer.  New Cometic gasket set.

The heads were thermo cleaned, magged, & checked for straightness. Fresh 3 angle valve job on original OE valves.  New PC seals.  New Comp Cams double springs, locks & retainers.  Heads have not been ported. Are still in original configuration although a tiny cleanup cut was done around the intake openings. The remainder of the valvetrain consists of stock OE guideplates.  New ARP rocker studs.  7/16" one piece seamless pushrods.  New replacement long slot OE type rocker arms, balls, & nuts.

The important numbers: Block casting # 3999289, date code - H 9 73. As stated earlier, no build numbers or VIN numbers on pad.  Head casting # 3964291, date codes - F 11 9 / K 3 9.  Crank forging # 7416, MK IV 4" stroke, forged, nitride, cross drilled, 1053. This is the "Black Crank"

Selling price on this piece is $7500. It would probably cost more to build a new "clone" or put an old OE piece back together. This motor is assembled, adjusted, & ready to drop in & run. Perfect for that project car or "Resto Clone" you're putting together.

If there's anything further you need to know about this piece, feel free to give me a call at 708 409 0315, ask for Phil. I can also be reached at slime233@hotmail.com, anytime. I build engines for a living, & no stone has been left unturned here. The best money can buy! You can come by & check this piece out any time. Can also arrange delivery or pick up at time of sale. There are probably some details I forgot to mention here, so feel free to give me a shout.
