JIM WERSCHING'S 1966 SUPER SPORT CONVERTIBLE
This is a 1966 Chevelle Super Sport Convertible, 396, 4 speed. Options on the car include power steering, power brakes, power windows, power top, tilt wheel, A/C with bucket seats and console.
I bought this car in December of 1990. You might say it was an early Christmas present. I’ve had a ’66 ElCamino for over 10 years, but the ’66 Chevelle Super Sport convertible was always my dream car. It was purchased for a sum of $2,800.00, which included many parts including floor pans, quarter panel, interior door panels and delivery, since it was not drivable. Through the course of the next 18 months, I restored the car to its current condition, including replacing floor pans, quarter panels, trunk floor, reupholstering the interior, various mechanical repairs, bodywork and painting. All work was done by myself with the exception of the installation of the convertible top and quarter panels. It was very hard work sometimes, but I enjoyed every minute. This is a fun car to drive and when I do, I can’t help but think of a good friend. Many years ago at one of our Club functions, a fellow Chevelle Nut noticed my gear shift knob, which just did not fit the car. I had been looking for chrome knob for a long time but just couldn’t find one that fit. Well, this NICC member, being an A1 machinist, made me a beautiful chrome knob, which fit perfectly. The older Club members will remember the one and only Bill Holer.
