Jake Walsh’s 1970 Cortez Silver Super Sport
BY: Jake Walsh, member #597
I bought my ‘70 SS from a gentleman in Walls, Mississipi in May of 2003. My first muscle car was a plain ‘67 Camaro convertible that I cloned into an RS/SS convertible with a ton of factory options. It took me and my uncle well over 2 years to complete that project. Very soon after we completed it, I sold it and bought a #s matching ‘67 Vette Roadster. The car did not fit me well, so I sold it to buy a ’70 SS.
I put a Want Ad on the internet and was contacted by a person in Mississippi who was thinking about selling his car. He had the car for 12 years and needed the money. My wife and I drove down and looked at it and gave him a deposit. I picked the car up a month later and drove it all the way back to Chicago. It was a very fun trip.
The car is a numbers matching ’70 SS with a build sheet to back it up. All panels are original to the car and it has had one repaint in 87,000 miles. Other than that, not much else has been done. The interior is original and vinyl top are original, the motor has been rebuilt and the engine bay touched up. The car was bought new in Seattle, WA and spent most of its life in Texas before being bought by the last owner and brought to Mississippi.
Options include: Bucket seats. Console, gauge package, cowl induction, rear defroster, AM radio, tinted glass, interior lighting group, M-21 four speed trans and 3.31 posi.
