FEATURE CAR

1965 CHEVELLE SS -

By:  Mark Storjohann, #610

A little history on the car; I purchased it from my brother-in-law about two years ago.  He was a

very good polisher but did not even own a grease gun!  Well, he and my sister got pregnant and the car had to go in order to make room for the sedan and baby seat!  Lucky me!  I had been around the car for several years prior to purchasing it, so I knew quite a bit about it.  He had the car since '97.

I have spent most of my time and money on routine care and some dress up parts.  This winter is some of the more major undertakings; I have been told that is "ambitious".  I am going to put a 700R4 in exchange for the built TH350 that has been in for 7 years.  I am staying with the 400hp small block - a LT1 clone (humpback heads [date coded Jan '71] solid lifters and 11:1 pistons).  Getting the extra 30hp over stock from the cam, Torquer manifold, 750 Holley, electric fan and Hooker Super Comp headers.

I have the front end completely apart right now and the engine and trans are out.  Car runs (or at least it “ran” great).  I love to drive and work the engine.  I have never had it on a track to see how it does in the ¼ or the 1/8 mile.  I plan to when it is back together and I find a strip.
