FEATURE CAR

- MY FATHER’S CHEVELLE  -

By:  Charlie Rehor, #591

Here's my '64 Chevy with 18k miles.  My dad bought it new, it has a small 6 cylinder engine, stick and non- power anything.  It sat in storage for years so I finally had it towed to Bill Kay Pontiac where a good mechanic friend of mine worked on it for a month on a part-time basis.  He is a car lover and racer from Plainfield.  Had a lot of things done before starting it, even Marvel oil in the cylinders for hand cranking etc.  Wanted to make sure it was safe.  Items done included:  new gas and brake lines, brakes, radiator, water and fuel pumps, belts, ignition, battery, tires etc.

The car runs great but the steering is really a job and I wonder if I could have power steering put in.  Do you think it can be done?  I also has a few paint chips and so would like to have that taken care of by somebody like the guys that touch up used cars at the dealers.  I had the rocker panel trim strips removed as they were aluminum and corroded.  I still have the old ones but would like to buy and reinstall new ones if
I could buy them anymore.  Any ideas?  Any members that could give me advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.  Contact me at Charlie@rehor.com
