XMAS PARTY POSTPONEMENT WAS

A GOOD THING TO DO !!!

For the first time that I can remember, the decision amongst the Board to postpone the Christmas party from December 1st to the 8th was not easily made.  The calls and emails took about 2.5 hours, but I think it was the right decision.

When I was calling around when I called the Wersching's, Judy said if there was ice, they weren't going to come.  Jill Karg said she probably wasn't excited, but that Jim would put a plow on the front of the '66 Chevelle, but it was probably a good thing to do.

On Saturday the 8th, 45 NICC members came to the Christmas party.  We had several members make this their first NICC function.   The weather wasn't the best we've ever had, but it was better than the prior Saturday.

Keep watching this website for details on the January meeting.

Ya'll have a great Christmas and New Year's with family & friends !!

NICC AT MR. BEEF

It was a pretty good day for the second Saturday of November.  Temps weren’t too bad and there was no precipitation.  We had 11 NICC members at the Mr. Beef.  The October / November meetings are generally just the “come & relax” type.  That is, we are kinda taking a breather from the various summer car activities and talking about plans we have for the winter and what we might do next summer.

This month we also had the opportunity for the club to pay the tab for the drinks and the two large Mr. Beef pizzas, which were sausage, onion and green peppers I think.  I didn’t have many so I am unsure.

Let’s see if I remember all who attended, Mark Witczak, Bob Reichenbach, Jim & Judy Wersching,  Steve Husak, George Primm, Jim & Jill Karg.  Also there was Terry McManmon and his daughter Zoe, who I am guessing I haven’t seen since she was in Jr. Hi.  She’s a university graduate now (Princeton, Yale or Harvard; one of those).  You can see by Terry’s look while getting his pic taken, kinda reminds me of a lion thinking about just when to eliminate that annoying, yet tasty gazelle.  I took only this pic in addition to the ’07 Z-06.  Didn’t want to push it.

Oh yes, I successfully kept secret Terry’s most recent acquisition quiet.  In October he emailed me and let me know that if the weather was nice and the parking was good (which I said they have plenty of).  In January of this year he went to Harbor Chevrolet in Michigan City, MI.  Why there and not a local Illinois dealer, because dealers get allocations for Z-06’s based on their other Corvette sales and Terry knew he’d actually get him the car and not just take the deposit.  Nice.

After the meeting Jim Wersching, George Primm & Mark Witczak went over to Jim Karg's house after the meeting at checked-out the 1964 Chevelle.

RECAP OF NICC & GEARHEADS AT

BYRON DRAGWAY

What an absolutely gorgeous day, not too hot, sunny and not humid.  Very nice.  I saw approximately 5 NICC Cars and about 16 Gearheads.  I had to depend on NICC and Gearhead member Ralph Weidenbach for the Gearhead numbers.  Fortunately I had taken alot video and pics of every car that ran, so I got most of the cars drag racing.

Below are some pics from the day.

This is Ralph Weidenbach lining up in his '67 red Chevelle against a Gearhead member.  Ralph runs a 496 cubic inch engine that on pump gas has 640hp.  Running well is not a problem.

In the far lane is NICC member Sinbad, or Mark Storjohann.  Sinbad has moved to Clinton, IA but took the 1.5 drive over to run his '65.  He says it runs consistent 13.3 and 13.2's.  Just depends.

Ronnie & Debbie Pogue drove their original owner, '68 SS 4-spd. big block to Byron for the day.  We'll have a feature car article on it soon.  Purchased out of high school, co-signed his dad and driven for 2 months prior to getting drafted into the Army.  They recently drove it to Springfield, Mo. and back for the Car Craft Nationals.  18 hours on the road and lots of smiles !!

-  2007 DRAG RACING DATES FOR THE NICC -

Above is a pic of what I believe is an original event flyer from Oswego.  Enlarge it

and you'll see on the bottom that admission is $1.  Oh ya.

It was a very nice day; in the 70's during the day and got into the low 60's at night.  5 NICC cars took advantage of this weather and made the journey to Wes & Barb's home in Oswego.  We were to be there by 4pm so we could be in Oswego shortly thereafter.  Taking the back way from Frisch's house is only about 1.5 miles to town.  The big blocks weren't even warmed-up by the time we got there.

Last year the attendance in Oswego was overwhelming, there were cars everywhere, including adjacent parking lots.  This year there were not as many cars showing in town.  We didn't know if the cooler weather impacted the cruise and the show overall.  There were many beautiful cars of all types.  Since it is in honor of Oswego Dragstrip it was neat to see a display by a car that had trophies from the track in the and pics of the car the fella drag raced.  It was awesome for me to see the old trophies, time slips and newspaper articles with news of the weekend's winners.  Gotta love it.

We arrived around 4:30 and parked where we did last year; behind a house/business that was owned by a friend of Wes.  It was about 25 feet from the show cars and provided us with a very convenient place to park and walk.  The older we get the closer we want to be to the action.  As you can see by the picture, it was cool enough when we got there to wear our jackets.

We hit main street and enjoyed the cars.  As you can see, the crowds weren't as large as last year.

We walked around and enjoyed the cars, then went to the same sandwich shop we did last year.  Last year it was packed, but this year when we got there only 3 tables were occupied.  We had our dinner and went back out.  From there we started leaving for home and looking forward to drag racing on Sunday, Sept. 30th at Byron Dragstrip.

Here are some pics from the night in Oswego:

See the red Pontiac in the picture above?  It was on display.  It was at the show by the original owner.  He also had the original tow bar there.  See the tow vehicle?  A 70-72 Monte Carlo !!!

MIKE & DAWN MOELLER'S WEDDING

The NICC family has grown.  One of our long-time members, and one of the many nice people you will meet and love to know, Mike Moeller, married his long-time friend, and now life-long love today in Geneva, IL.  14 NICC members were in attendance to see our friend(s) enjoy their day.  Below are some pics, and some videos to share.

If you don't know Mike, when you first see this impressive man, you don't know what to think, but once his heart-of-gold is known, you know you have a wonderful friend for life.  What a guy.  Just by association you know Dawn is special.  They have known each other for 8 years and as the minister said, who is the minister for the church Dawn and Mike attend, they wondered why Mike took so long !!  Ha.  He's careful !!!

Here is Mike greeting guests prior to the wedding start.

Mike & Dawn, congrats on your wedding day.  Mike, you are one special lovable man and we are glad that Dawn gets to enjoy the companionship of one of the most genuine and nice men the NICC has.  Live it up and make the most of every day you have together.  It only gets better.

Your friends from the NICC.

MARK & CHERYL'S AUGUST 25TH CRUISE  RECAP

The weekend before the weather was, well, how do I put it . . . MONSOON.  It started on Friday, August 17th and basically continued for the next 4 days.  Enough water to replenish the Grand Canyon (well, maybe).

Anyhow, we had BEAUTIFUL WEATHER.  It was in the 70's, sunny and a little breezy.  There were a total of 7 NICC cars on a night that saw the Dog n Suds turnout being very low.  There was room in the parking lot all night.  We met at Mark & Cheryl's home on Woody Way at 5:15pm and left from there.  It took a little longer because Mark had to take us a way where there weren't any flooded bridges.  Yep, the water was high but that didn't stop us.

Those in attendance were Mark and Cheryl in their beautiful Evening Orchard '65 SS, Floyd Drinkwine in his '65 El Camino, Jim and Jill Karg in their '66 big block SS, Joe and Carol Wirth in their '66 Chevelle, Marty Leibrock in his '72 SS Chevelle Convertible, Steve Husak's  and Ralph Weidenbach was waiting for us at the Dog n Suds with his '67 SS big block (highly modified).  The procession there was nice, and I was riding shotgun with my Brother-in-law Marty Leibrock, so I could take pics and video of the drive.

Ralph's car draws attention wherever it goes; and that's before the highly modified big block even starts.  The father of these boys made sure these boys moved away from the car when Ralph started it so they wouldn't get sucked through the engine and spit out the back.  Good move.

Joe Wirth enjoying the exhaust smell of high octane.  The NICC members parked across the street in the railroad station so that we could leave when we wanted.  We assumed it would be its usual packed parking, but it wasn't.  While it was beautiful, the wet weather of the prior days either discouraged people or they were home cleaning their basements.

Mark & Cheryl's 65 is on the left.  It is a beautiful sight to behold and drew many looks.  It's a runner too.

This is Joe & Carol's '66.  It's a sleeper.  You wouldn't know by looking at it that it's a low 13 second runner.  Looks like a "nice old car".  Steve Husak's '70 "SS" wagon is behind Joe's.

Steve Husak's '70 "SS" wagon, Jim Kark's '66, Floyd's '65 El and Marty's '72 SS Chevelle convertible.  NICE.

A very beautiful Yenko Camaro.  Paperwork included.

Remember this Butternut Yellow '67 SS from the NICC and several National Chevelle Owner's Association Conventions?  A national winner and Paul, the owner, has moved from Chicago to a house just 1 mile from Dog n Suds.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY AT BOB JASS CHEVROLET

It was an absolutely PERFECT day.  Yep, I've never been to San Diego but I heard the comparison because of the temps in the 70's, no humidity and a nice breeze.  If we were able to custom order to weather, this would have been what was chosen.

The cars totaled around 25 throughout the day.  Several members emailed me to let me know they wish they could be there, but family things were in the way.  For instance, Keith Malek let me know he'd like to be there, but his daughter was getting married; not a tough choice.  I am guessing that after the wedding he'll be able to have some extra $$$ to spend on his car!!!

As always, there were some new friends that we met and two long time members who we haven't seen in 10 years.  For new members, Mark Freid, whose registration we received on Thursday, July 19th, was there with his significant other Charlotte.  He is currently finishing a project car that someone else started but didn't finish.  It's a 1972 Chevelle that has a 350 engine and is Lt. Blue with black interior.  He has been buying parts from the Parts Place in Elburn, but they were not offering him a discount, so I told him that Tamraz will give him a 10% discount.

Then, we saw a sighting that usually sends us running, well at least at home.  It was My Skunk, whom we haven't see in 10 years.  Jose Hinjosa and his son Dan brought their black 1970 with white stripes.  Nice to see the car and the Hinjosa's after all these years.  The paint is "deep", very nice.

Bob Jass and his son-in-law, Ryan, did a very nice job of welcoming us to their dealership.  They cleared out the front of the South lot for us.  This is a beautiful site right next to Rt. 47 and under large shade trees.  They also provided a lunch of brats and hamburgers, cookies, pop, water and chips.  It was a very nice thing for them to do and we appreciate it very much.  I spent some time talking with Ryan and learned that he is a retired Army pilot whose service included the first Gulf war.  NICC member Rick Montalto, who organized the cruise, shows off some of the great tasting food that was available to us.  You should've been there; great day, great cars and fine food!!!

Wes Frisch brought out his 1966 Chevelle, but you'd have to look twice if you saw the plate but were expecting a black car.  It has been painted a Honda pick-up sea-blue.  Very similar to the 2007 Chevrolet pick-up.  Very sharp and looks great.  If you look at the picture here, you'll see Scott Olisar's Gran Prix, Andy Marchiando's '66, Wes' freshly painted '66 and Rick Montalto's '67.  Double click on the pic and you'll notice that Wes' car is picking up the blue of Andy's, but it shows what tone it is.  Very nice.

Also, several members were taking advantage of the convenient location of a Chevrolet dealership.  This past April Rick had purchased his 2007 4.3L pick-up and is loving it.  Mike Hogan has been looking to replace his 1999 Suburban and last year heard that they 6-speed auto trans was coming out; it's out.  So Mike went looking and with a sticker price of $42M he was thinking twice. Then the salesman mentioned that they are 1 of 10 dealers to get the exec driven cars and Mike can save about $14M for buying one fully loaded exec driven that has between 5K-15K on them.  Looks like Mike is going to pull the trigger and get to know the Suburban prior to his January trip to AZ.  The pic here is of Mike walking with the salesman to check out the stock.  Scott Olisar has gotten his money out of his S-10 pick-up (200,000 miles) and was quoted a very good price on a 2007 pick-up that was on the lot.

The fun was just sitting and relaxing in the beautiful weather.  Wish you would have had the excuse to just come and relax?  We did.  Here Rick and Andy enjoy the shade, cars and friendship.  Oh ya.

Also, because Joel was not here, his "new" 1978 Malibu Classic Station Wagon took his place.  In honor of this, Joel's long-time friends and mentors from the NICC gathered around his car to let him know they were thinking of him.  Very much appreciated.

Marty Leibrock and his boys came in the 1972 convertible.  Debbie was in Decatur that day to help with some family issues and attend a wedding shower for her nephew.  I hope the boys appreciate "the ride" they have!!!  Marty, before you know it they'll be counting the days until they get their license and asking for the keys to the Chevelle.  Then the grey hair really starts !!

This is a good shot of Wes Frisch's freshly painted car.  It was beautiful black and it looks great here also.  Hopefully the lighter color helps cool the car.  The fella looking at the car is Correy Clayton, owner of Clayton Racing Engines in Elburn.  His NHRA drag car was the first to break into the 5's in the early 70's and his expertise continues.  There have been 3 Revell models of his cars.  He wasn't the driver, but the mechanic and get this, he was a commercial airline pilot.  A mechanically gifted guy.  Looks like we are going to have a winter meeting at

While talking with Rick Montalto about his pleasant car purchase at Bob Jass Chevrolet, he mentioned that the only thing about his new truck that bothered him was the "clunk" he would have during initial acceleration.  The factory told the dealership that it was because the driveshaft was changed to aluminum from steel and it conducted the sound of the yoke shifting when the trans turned from a dead stop.  They said there was "no" fix.  Well, the mechanic there fixed it in 15 minutes.  He dropped the driveshaft and placed a small "SUPER BALL" in the trans shaft and put the driveshaft fixed.  Guess what?  It worked.  They have a drawer full of superballs to fix this problem and when Rick asked what if the Superball wears out, he was told to come back in and they'd fix it in 15 minutes again.  American ingenuity !!!

We wish you had been there, but please make it a point to come out to the next function in August.

For your enjoyment, here are a couple of video clips:

This is Jose & Dan Hinjosa driving "My Skunk" back home.  The smell of the exhaust was more pleasant than the usual skunk smell.  My Skunk Leaving the Show

NICC members are wishing Joel well a the Air Force Academy and deciding how to tell him the Mike Hogan blew the rear end out of the Malibu Wagon while taking a test drive.  Wishing Joel well.

TALES FROM THE ROAD:

REPORTS FROM NICC MEMBERS ON THE POWER TOUR.

DAY FOUR:  NICC LONG-HAULERS CATCH MORE NICC MEMBERS IN OSWEGO

Hey NICC members,

On Tuesday I met up with Mike Hogan and we went to Wes' house to follow Wes, Jim and Andy to reunite with the Power Tour.  As you know, Wes, Andy and Jim Karg are doing the "Long Haul" but opted for a good night sleep at home vs in Racine.  We all left Wes' house around 10:30.  They all had their Chevelles, Mike had his big white Grandville Convertible (which looks great with the new top), and I brought the Vette, hoping that I could remove the T-tops once the weather got nicer.

We had periods of rain but mostly just cloudy.  I was in the back of the group and it was nice seeing all the great cars up ahead.  We had lunch in a little town called McNabb about 12:30 at a little Mom & Pop restaurant, which had very nice people and great food.  I split with the group after lunch since I had some personal things to take care of.  All the way home, I saw groups of great cars coming the other way.  All-in-all, I logged close to 300 miles before I got home.  It was a wonderful trip.  Hope everyone made it to Springfield OK.

Best regards.

                Jim Wersching

DAY THREE:   ON THE WAY TO RACINE

Hey everyone, my party is over.  I really had a blast.  It was very nice of the boys to let me tag along this weekend (Jim, Andy, Wes).  We started early today and by around 8am we met Scott and Eddie at good Ole Cracker Barrel,  John was already meeting there with his Detroit Locker group.  We ate and were on our way, the (2) '66 Chevelles, Johns 71, Scott and Eddie's Grand Prix and the Detroit Locker Truck to Lane Automotive in Niles, Michigan (WOW) this store is unbelievable, its nice to be able to see, touch, etc parts displayed on the walls, everything and anything you want is available.

We wanted to keep moving because the heavy weather was coming  in quickly, you definitely had the feelings of the old days with all these vintage cars running in the rain all day. The cars are endless from the 71 Challenger Pace car, Hemi Cuda at the hotel, too many Chevelles, Camaros,  Impalas to list, Vegas, Pacers and almost everything else you can imagine.  The idea for the venue at Racine would have been great but the rain pretty much washed everything out.  I hope for the group continuing the weather improves.  I'm sure the smaller towns will make them feel welcome.  Have a good time and drive careful.

Thanx Fred Aguayo

DAY TWO ON THE WAY TO KALAMAZOO

1:58pm, Sunday, 6-3-07;  The  boys are on the Tour and I am just receiving pics from Fred Aguayo.  Fred is riding shotgun with Jim Karg and this is the pic of Jim's grey '66 427 SS and Andy's 396 SS.

Jim is smiling BIG TIME.  He just installed a 5-speed manual transmission.  He did that because on the '05 Power Tour he was getting 9mpg, but ran 12's in the quarter mile.  He is HAPPY to report that he is now getting 20mpg with a 4.11 rear end.  Yahoo !!!  Andy installed a 700R4 a few years ago and regularly gets 24+ mpg with his 396 big block.

On the road.  Hey, that Camaro sure looks familiar.  That was with us on the 2005 Power Tour.

The route we are on puts us in small towns.  Man, we feel like Rock Stars with the welcome we get going through these towns.  Oh ya.

That's Jim's car on the left, Scott Olisar's in the middle and Andy's on the right.  Looks like Andy is watching that cooling tower; is he trying to figure out a way to harness the power there?  Let's wait and see.

Parked in Kalamazoo and getting ready for the trip to Racine.

Who would have thought these two '66 big blocks would be getting 20+ mpg?

DAY ONE IN CLEVELAND

Also on the Scott Olisar and his son are on the first part of the Tour also.

A NOTE FROM THE TOUR FROM FRED:  Sunday, 6-3-07; 9:15pm

Hello Everyone.  We started our day around 3am on Saturday.  I pulled into Jim Karg's driveway around 4am.  Jim and I headed to meet Wes and Andy at the oasis on 80/294 by Halsted.  Once the boys landed we were off.  The two 66 Chevelles (1automatic/1 manual) both have overdrives and Big Blocks.  They are both running tight and averaging in the area of 20mpg.  The routes the Power Tour has chosen have been really cool and all the smaller towns have been lined up on the sides of the roads waving to us, we feel like "Rock Stars".   I have been having a blast both of the cars really turn a lot of heads.

Once at the venues there are so many things to see your head feels like its on a swivel.  You can really get alot of ideas from all the different venders and my partners in crime, my car may take another couple of years at this rate. .Hmm air conditioning, serpentine belt, etc.  The weather was super hot in Cleveland ending in rain.  Michigan has been somewhat wet but comfortable.  I will try to send more before dropping off on Monday night.

Here are a few pics of the action for you enjoyment.

APRIL 21st MEETING AT
WILKIN'S HOME IN BENSENVILLE

What had an absolutely PERFECT day; in the mid-70's, perfect blue skies with a hint of clouds.  29 members who drove 22 vehicles with 11 of those being Chevelles & El Caminos was a fine way to start the 2007 activities for the NICC.

This white Pontiac convertible is one of the latest acquisitions by Mike Hogan and John Shipkowski.  This past winter they got three Pontiac convertibles, I believe; one from AZ. (small block), Wi. (big block) and this convertible from Texas.  It is nice.  This may be the cruiser they take on the Hot Rod Power Tour.  They are not planning on keeping them but selling them.

For those who have attended NICC meetings before, and especially the April meeting, we start at 7pm, but we spend at least an hour talking, catching up on family & cars and just enjoying the company.

After a while we just naturally migrated to the garage where we were greeted by a nice welcoming message from Emma Wilkin.  She has done this in the past and I always look for it when walking in the garage.

Once we were settled, the meeting started.  If there were a long distance aware I guess we could have given it to Jerry & Marilyn LeMIre who have returned to Westmont from their winter Florida home.  They are longtime members of the NICC and a wonderful couple to be around, but I think spending so much time together in Florida has done something.  That's Jerry in the picture on the left, second row, in the green jacket.  Marilyn was in another part of the garage, playing the role of the Southern Belle (Southern Westmont).  I thought that was funny.

John Sonnefeldt brought some accumulated items from vendors:  Eaton hats and shirts, OPG hats and shirts, Eaton and Detroit Locker bumper stickers and Eaton small screwdrivers.  They were all gone after the meeting ended.  Thank you John.

Once the meeting was started we discussed the following.

Summer Cruises:  The May, June & July cruises are set and August is tentative.  We need a September volunteer.  May and June will be hosted by the Holbach's in Palatine and the Primm's in Bolingbrook.  May is traditionally Jim's, but he has family commitments, and the Primm's were going to host June, so we may switch those.  July will be the Cruise / Chevy Show at Bob Jass Chevrolet in Elburn.  Picnic and Bar-b-q may be supplied as the dealership loved having us last year.  August is a potential John Sonnefeldt arranged overnight opportunity in the Rockford area like we did in May, 2005.  Freeport has a huge show, cruise & burnout contest so we can combine that with a couple of more tours of auto related stops.  Keep watching the website for updates.

Power Tour:  The Power Tour is limited to 4,000 Long-Haulers this year, so if you are going REGISTER NOW.  We have many members who are going to make the complete trip from Cleveland, OH to Little Rock, AR.  If you would like to be the Organizer, Point of Contact please let me go.  I or my sons cannot do the whole trip as planned; we have to make two trips to Colorado Springs to bring Joel to the Air Force Academy after his high school graduation plus a family reunion.  We have a family budget and cannot do the whole thing.  Please let me know if you want to the be the "Coordinator".  To register for the cruise, this is the link:  www.hotrod.com/upcomingevents/hdrp_2007_power_tour

Picnic:  If someone would like to "take charge" and organize this year's picnic please let me know.  The responsibilities include securing a location, getting the food and whatever you'd like to do.  Of course, the members take care of bringing games and such, but the picnic usually goes from 11am to 4pm, so it is not a great amount of time.  If you have a nice spot to host it, either a park or a private residence that about 30 cars can comfortably fit, please let me know.  George at 630-305-9537.

Then we had the election.  The results are as follows:

President - George Primm

Vice President - Ralph Weidenbach

Treasurer - Jim Karg

Board Members - John Sonnefeldt, Bob Reichenbach and Jim Wersching.

We had an excellent time and wish all could have been there.  We want to thank the Wilkin's for hosting the cruise and once again opening their house and garage to us.  It is always a pleasure.

Keep visiting this website so you'll know when the May cruise is as soon as it is decided.  It'll be in the May newsletter, but everything is here first.

MARCH 18th BOWLING
AT LISLE LANES

We had 21 NICC members and family come out on Sunday, March 18th, for some bowling and fun.  It was an absolute perfect day for traveling and bowling.  There were plenty of lanes available and we were on 5 of them.  As far as I know, the lowest score of the day was posted by myself, George Primm, with an 85.  I hadn't bowled for two years and had time only for one game, but I did beat one person, Andy & Lisa Marchiando's granddaughter, the cute and entertaining Abbey.  She got a 75.  Oh well.  In the picture you can see Abbey admiring her score, while at the left you see Kevin Marchiando talking with Michelle, his girlfriend.  This is before she started beating him.  For a picture of where Kevin ended up as Michelle widened her lead, see the picture below.

The high score was Jim Wersching with a 211, and he was always near the pocket.  He was bowling with Ralph "Pin Slayer" Weidenbach, whose muscular throw of an 18 pound bowl launched the bowl about 10 feet down the lane before it hit the wood.  The pins fell over voluntarily when they saw Ralph approaching.  If you look at the picture of Ralph on the right, you see the "blur", that's his ball "in flight".  He said he recently bowled at the Lombard Lanes the night they closed for good, to make room for a bank.  They let him bowl "all out" and he flew it within 10 feet of the pins, it bounced once and BLAMO!!!  If you look closely at the pic of Ralph bowling, between lanes on what used to be the ball return, there is a white box, well, Ralph said his shots at Lombard Bowl didn't touch the lane until they were at those white boxes.

Carol & Joe Wirth did some great bowling, with Carol taking it to Joe the first game (I think).  It takes us older guys a bit to warm up, you know.  The girls stay forever young, so they have an early advantage.  In between bowling they enjoyed talking with long-time friend, Jill Karg.  While talking, Jim Karg was approaching the lane ready to give those pins a rocking.

Kevin Marchiando was there, and he brought his girlfriend, Michelle.  I suggested to Michelle that she should not beat Kevin, but her first time up she threw a strike, so I politely suggested she not make a big deal about it publicly.  Well, she beat him the first game, but there is a qualification though, she was using the lane Abbey was and there were bumpers up on the lanes and Michelle used them to her advantage.  The picture you see if Kevin standing staring at the pins while Michelle sits and enjoys the moment.  I do think that Kevin won the series between them, so he is still wearing the pants.  Not to worry, mother Lisa beat'em all.

RECAP  OF  FEBRUARY 17TH MEETING

AT GETZ HOT ROD INNOVATIONS IN HAMPSHIRE

On Saturday, February 17th at 10:00am, 23 NICC will have a meeting hosted by Mike Moeller at Getz’s Hot Rod Innovations, Inc. located in Hampshire, IL.  Now, if you are near Hampshire I can bet you that you had no idea that such a quality shop was within a stone’s throw of you.  It is unbelievable.  They have a showroom that you can see anytime, filled with show cars, restored and reproduction pedal cars, old 10 ft. tall gas pumps, vintage signs, etc.  You could spend at least an hour there anytime, but if you were there, Dustin, Lee, Dan and others were there to give us a great tour and information.

There is a large showroom, but through the doors is where the magic happens; they do insurance body work, but also the custom rods, fabulous work.  Projects include the creation of a woody station wagon based on a 1/18th scale model.  Also a Plymouth Satellite with a Vortec blown 426 hemi that was dynode at 1,200 hp.  Doesn’t have enough tire for that, we’ve concluded.  How about a ’32 Ford that has a 572 cubic inch crate engine with an 8-71 blower.  WOW.  Next to that was one of five 1952 Astin-Martin convertibles that they have built a frame for and are putting a 2.8 litre GM engine in so that the original frame and engine are preserved.  The owner wants to drive it.

Some more pics:

This is the custom 1957 that you saw when you first walk into the showroom.

This is one tricked-out 1967 Chevelle.  Look at the work for the trunk alone.  Also, the integrated roll-bar is fantastic.  It is built into the door panel so that when you open the door it pivots at the door hinges and the part that hooks to the rear seat roll-bar slides in the door panel.  I'll have a video of it here soon.  The injected 502 was sitting in front of the Chevelle just waiting to go back in.

A 1968 Chevelle having some work done, including front and rear disc brakes.  Will have a pic of the rear left parking brake bracket soon.

While not a Chevelle, it is related.  It is a 1971 Pontiac Gran Prix.  Next to it is a donor Gran Prix.  The owner is having it completely restored as it is his first car.  How cool.  Getz will help you get your dream completed.

This is how Getz makes sure they paint their wheels well (sorry about that).  They can rotate the wheel while working on it.

Now how often is it that when you see a diecast, you would like to have it?  Well one customer has the money to do it so Getz is making a full size car of this diecast.  They've had it a year and are just reaching their stride.

This 1950 Merc has a Chevy drivetrain (what else?).  The owner took years to find all the original NOS chrome moldings on the car.  This past January, while coming back from World Of Wheels, it was on a flatbed truck and the convertible top was not secured.  It is in the shop to repair the damage from the top coming off and hitting / denting the rear quarter panel.  A new top and frame is being fabricated.

It was nice having Bob Reichenbach out enjoying the morning.  Here he is talking with long time friend, Wes Frisch.

RECAP OF JAN.20TH

MEETING

AT THE  KARG'S  HOME

On Saturday, January 20th at 6:30pm, 12 members of the NICC took advantage of milder than normal winter temps and precipitation and enjoyed an evening at Jim & Jill Karg's.

We had a meeting, but we were kinda entertained by the Barrett-Jackson Auction being played on Jim & Jill's 61" Mitshubishi HDTV.  The prices were pretty goofy in some instances, but then low in others.  Of course, this was the opinion of some of the most esteemed "car guys" there are, so there wasn't much debate.

Jim is deep in conversation with Scott Olisar.  I thought I overheard Jim telling him a few hints on how to get Scott's wife to say "yes" to a big screen.  We were all listening, actually.

Jim Wersching and Mike Moeller discussing where they will be the same time next Saturday, the 27th.  They are making another trip to AZ. with Mike Hogan and Vince Gallagher looking for cars and sheetmetal.  The calm before the storm.
